Exam Brief

The Greater Bombay Science Teachers’ Association (GBSTA) Conducts Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition (DHBBVC) Since 1981 To Encourage Students To Take Interest In Science, To Inculcate Scientific Attitude & Search Science Talent In Students. This Competition Is Based On Scientific Knowledge Acquired By The Students’ Up To Std. VI And IX.

 

This Competition Has Carved A Niche For Itself Across Maharashtra. The Competition Has Moved Beyond The Metros Of Mumbai, Thane, Pune, And Nashik. Bright Enthusiastic Students From Cities And Towns From All Over Maharashtra Are Taking Part In This Competition.

The Greater Bombay Science Teachers’ Association (GBSTA) conducts Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition (DHBBVC) since 1981 to encourage students to take interest in science, to inculcate scientific attitude & search science talent in students. This competition is based on scientific knowledge acquired by the students’ up to std. VI and IX.

 

This competition has carved a niche for itself across Maharashtra. The competition has moved beyond the metros of Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nashik. Bright Enthusiastic students from cities and towns from all over Maharashtra are taking part in this competition.

Students studying only in VI and IX Std. of English and Marathi Medium of all boards.
 (Note: Students from Semi-English section can go for English or Marathi medium as per their comfort level. Selected medium will remain the same for ALL further stages of the competition. No change in the selected medium is permitted by GBSTA).

For 6th std.

Textbooks of 4th ,5th & 6th std. of Maharashtra State Board and Content related to the above from ICSE, IB and CBSE books.

 

Approximately 10 % questions on 4th std. syllabus.

Approximately 20 % questions on 5th std. syllabus.

Approximately 60 % questions on 6th std. syllabus.

Approximately 10 % questions on General knowledge in science.

 

For 9th std.

Textbooks of 7th, 8th & 9th std of Maharashtra State Board and Content related to the above from ICSE, IB and CBSE books.

 

Approximately 10 % questions on 7th std. syllabus.

Approximately 20 % questions on 8th std. syllabus.

Approximately 60 % questions on 9th std. syllabus.

Approximately 10 % questions on General knowledge in science.


There are 4 stages of Selection Process for DHBBVC.

Stage I: Theory Competition

It is a Written test of 100 multiple choice questions in which Physics, Chemistry and Biology 30 questions of each subjects & 10 questions based on General Knowledge in science as per standard.

 

Number of Questions: 100

Maximum Marks: 100

Duration of Exam: 90 Mins

Mode of Exam: Offline/Online 

Stage II: Practical Competition

 Merit wise Top 7.5% students per region per medium will be selected for phase II.

 

For 6th std.: There will be 5 experiments of 6 marks each based on General science.

Maximum Marks: 30
Duration: 30 min. (6 mins per experiment)

 

For 9th Std: There will be 1 experiment on Physics & Chemistry each and 10 questions based on 10 specimens in Biology.

Maximum Marks: 30
Duration: 30 mins (10 Mins for each subject).



Stage III: General Interview

30% of the marks obtained in phase I + marks obtained in phase II will be considered and Merit wise Top 10 % students will be selected for phase III and IV

Duration: 5 – 10 Mins

 

Stage IV: Evaluation and Interview on Action Research Project

Selection for Medal: Considering 30% marks of Phase I + Marks score of (Phase II + Phase III + Phase IV)
